Westview-Fairforest Firefighters Pulled Injured Man to Safety

Posted on October 2, 2015 in News

Lt. Ivan Settle and Firefighter Scott Dorsey from the Westview-Fairforest Fire Department pulled an injured man to safety Thursday morning, Oct. 1, 2015 after he drove his truck into a hole caused by the road washing away at the intersection of Hayne and Ethel Roads in Spartanburg.

Westview-Fairforest and Una Fire Departments were on the scene, along with Spartanburg County Emergency Management.

Crews say the man was swept away in his vehicle, but he managed to get out and cling to a tree before he was saved.

The man was taken to the hospital and his conditions and injuries were not known.

A culvert pipe was washed out and the road in that section is gone, according to emergency crews.

We appreciate the work of our B-Shift Crew – Capt. Derrick Miller, Lt. Ivan Settle, FF Scott Dorsey and FF Corey Thompson for their hard work in saving this life.
