JOB OPENING – FIRE CAPTAIN

The purpose of the class is to supervise, coordinate and participate in the activities of firefighting crews at incidents, including but not limited to fires, hazardous material incidents and rescue operations; to ensure the accurate and complete documentation of all assigned activities; and to perform related administrative, supervisory and technical work as required. This class works within broad policy and organizational guidelines and does independent planning and implementation, reporting progress of major activities through periodic conferences and meetings. Fire Captain is responsible for the shift that they are assigned and may supervise the entire Department’s activities in the absence of a higher ranking supervisor.

Qualifications for this position requires:  EMT-Basic (min), 10-12 years in the Fire Service as a career firefighter with a minimum 5 years as a Fire Officer.   Candidate must have Fire Officer I & II, and Fire Instructor I; an Associate’s Degree in Fire Service Management, Public Administration, Business Management or other associated fire service field is preferred.  The following class requirements must within one (1) year of the hire date, if the candidate does not possess.
