JOB OPPORTUNITY – CAPTAIN / EMT-B

The purpose of the class is to supervise, coordinate and participate in the activities of firefighting crews at incidents, including but not limited to fires, hazardous material incidents, and rescue operations; to ensure the accurate and complete documentation of all assigned activities; and to perform related administrative, supervisory and technical work as required. This class works within broad policy and organizational guidelines and does independent planning and implementation, reporting the progress of major activities through periodic conferences and meetings. Fire Captain is responsible for the shift that they are assigned and may supervise the entire Department’s activities in the absence of a higher ranking supervisor.

Qualifications for this position requires EMT-Basic (min), 8 – 10 years experience in the Fire Service as a career firefighter with a minimum of 5 years as a Fire Officer.  Candidate must have Fire Officer II and an Associates Degree in Fire Service Management, Public Administration, Business Management of other associated fire service field is preferred.  The following class requirements must be within 1-year of the hire date if the Candidate does not possess them.

  • NIMS 300 & 400
  • ICS for High Rise
  • ICS for Structural Collaspe
  • Fire Officer III
  • ICS Haz-Mat
  • STICO
  • PICO
  • Incident Safety Officer
  • PIO (SCEMD)
  • Leadership I, II & III
  • Fire Instructor II

Fire Captains are also required to obtain other technical or professional certifications as deemed necessary by the Fire Chief.

Salary:  DOE
