May is a very busy prevention month – we have Bicycle Safety Month; National Drowning Prevention & Water Safety Month Youth Traffic Safety Month; Motorcycle Safety Month; Trauma Awareness Month and Electrical Safety Month. Not to mention so many other things that happen this month, including Memorial Day!
Since we have so much to talk about, we thought we’d give everyone the links to these important topics.
- Bicycle Safety – Did you know in 2016 there were more than 840 bicyclist killed in the United States alone? Many of these were due to injuries by not wearing helmets and by drivers not watching for cyclist. There is so much information on National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA). You can download posters and learn many ways to help you and our children find the safest ways to ride and have fun. Go to https://www.nhtsa.gov/road-safety/bicycle-safety
- Swimming Safety and Drowning Prevention – To learn more about drowning and what you can do take a look at the National Drowning Prevention Alliance to learn safety tips they offer and much more about how you can do your part to prevent drowning. This site also show the number of drowning deaths and how you can get involved in their campaign. Check out https://ndpa.org/
Also the National Safety Council offers lots of information on all types of safety. We at Westview-Fairforest Fire Department wants everyone to enjoy the Month of May and be safe during all the prevention awareness celebrations!!!
We have to do our part to keep our children and ourselves safe! WFFD – safety first!
